My first mission trip was a blast.
Here’s just a summary. If you really want to know more, ask me!
Day 1. We set off on a Transtar coach to KL. It was around a six hour ride.
Shared a room with Lucas and fellow zone member, Desmond.
In the afternoon everyone gathered for a briefing and were sorted according to our respective ministries.
Turns out there were only 6 of us in children’s church and I was the only guy. Gosh.
Was seriously thinking of changing my ministry to security.
You know, try out different things.
I felt a small war going on the inside of me. Stay or not to stay?
Felt the Holy Spirit telling me to stay put and so I did.
You know, sometimes we always want to do things our way and not God’s way. But sometimes the HS wants us to do things according to his leading. He has plans that we do not know of, plans that we cannot comprehend.
Turns out that the children’s church was in need for a guitarist and only I could play the guitar. So I volunteered myself.
It was a good thing bringing my guitar. Initially brought it along to play and practice during my free time.
My first mission trip and I got to play the guitar!
Day 2 was a breakthrough night. I could really feel God’s presence from the children’s church area.
Pastor Kong preached about being a Daniel and the word just convicted my heart even though the message has been shared before at home.
Played for children’s church but there were a couple of minor mistakes.
I couldn’t memorised the scores totally and I stayed on the safe side, using the first 3 frets only.
Day 3.
Children’s church was really getting better. I felt my other 5 teammates really did an awesome job. They were the ones that came up with the games and activities and it just seems to go from glory to glory each day.
Attended the ‘Choosing The Right Partner’ elective in the afternoon and went to find Pastor Zhuang personally to talk to regarding some matters. He was really friendly and I appreciated his time out to talk to me.
Throughout the entire Emerge, I had also not felt that stress and tensed up for that 15 minutes during service.
I volunteered myself to help play a part to carry some stuff up the stage. The job description was pretty simple, carry two chairs up for Spelling Bee. Carry two chairs down after Fastest Talker.
In front of two thousand people. I honestly felt very intimidated and so were the other guys who helped.
Most of us just blanked out and forgot our roles.
Had to hear the briefing a few more times and an encouraging talk by Alan from security to boost us up.
Later I was talking to Lucas about it and he showed me that running the whole show is actually not easy at all. I felt that for 15 minutes but what about the people who would be behind the back scene, ensuring everything was going to flow according to the plan.
It showed me to look at things from a different perspective. And I should also not take things for granted back at home.
I think the best part was during the altar call. There were so many people that went forward.
I was really encouraged and touched to see the Malaysians just reaching out to God.
Slept at 4AM on the last night and we departed today morning, only to reach home in the late afternoon.
The KL Emerge was certainly a life-changing one for me. I felt my faith being strengthened.
I am even more determined to sign up for SOT next year.
And its going to be at least 2 mission trips for me too.
I’m missing Darrell a lot. He’s such a cutie that warms my heart.
